Ostrich Egg

by Kenny on January 18, 2009

Doesn’t this look like a huge Ostrich Egg to you?

Well, it is non other than the cheap

The reason for this purchase was because it was cheap and I am going to “try” to knit the Mallins 44 Niebling pattern from the Nieblings Yahoo Group. They are having a KAL and I wanted to try it. It’s a free pattern, exquisitely charted and I really wanted to try what knitting with doily cotton felt like.

Here’s a small swatch on 2.75 mm needles…..

I don’t think it’s going to work. Looks way too dense for me. I think I will switch up to maybe a 3 mm or a 3.25 mm needle and see how that goes.

And remember my big 30? Well, my wonderful friend Barry gave me a gift certificate to this place in Montana called Beaverslide Dry Goods. So, with that, I managed to get their wonderful mule spun color cards. (Oh my goodness, think of all the projects coming to mind right now!!!!)

And a pound of their light sportweight 1 ply yarn in the Huckleberry Heather color. Isn’t gorgeous?

Oh and PS: before I end, just FYI, my face is full of zits right now because of stress because I have to move and I have to buy a house. Urrgh!

Bigger is better!!! There's a special thrill about giant cones of yarn that even 10-20 skeins of yarn in a bag can't provide. LOL I've heard of this Beaverslide – I may have to check them out.
As much as I love buying appliances, vehicles & the house the thought of the responsibility & debt of it all is nauseating & hive-inducing. Good luck Kenny!!

You have to *buy* a house?

You can’t rent?

PS Word verification is “dratt”

I’ve always wondered how crochet cotton would work for lace. I’ll be interested to see how it works out for you.

I do so sympathize about the moving thing. We want to move out of London, but you might have gathered that this is not the best time to sell a flat in the UK! :( the mere thought brings me out in hives, and I have to go and lie down – or knit! ;)

Hello Kenny, I am responding from the Niebling Laceknitter’s Group – I think you really need to go to a much, much smaller thread! Otherwise you will be able to drape your new house in this Lyra ;-) Seriously, have you seen some of them already done? My personal favorite site is Handy Hands Tatting at: http://www.hhtatting.com – look at all those yummy crochet cottons now! I personally would use a size 20 or 30 on size zeros or ones . . . hth – June

Ahh, I’m sorry! I was thinking this thread (size 10) was for your Lyra! Ooops! Well, I still think you would be happier with size 20 or do as you said and go up to a size 3 needle!!
