All Stitched Up

by Kenny on February 27, 2006

My poor little baby Annie just got back from the hospital. Some mean dog attacked her at the dog park yesterday. Annie was playing with her tennis ball, minding her own business when the other dog pounced on her. That dog thought that Annie was playing with “her” tennis ball. Tore her up pretty badly. 11 stitches.

I know this is gross, but here are her stitches.

The owner was a bitch herself… she looked like a River Oaks wannabe. I hate her. I got my vet to call her and explain the charges and she told my vet that Annie wasn’t worth $400 and that she wasn’t going to pay and that I should call her lawyer.

Maybe I will. Many people saw what happened.

But I’m glad I handled this situation well. I wouldn’t know how I would have handled it without using the tools of AA. I didn’t panic. I thought it through, doing the next right thing….. with love. I didn’t take her to the emergency vet and waited overnight. This morning, she was still bleeding and I came home from work and took her to the vet. I could have chanced it to heal on it’s own, thus saving $400 but I did what I needed to do, followed my instinct and took her to the vet. I don’t think an 11 stitch wound would heal on its own very well. The worst that could happen is that I’m out $400, but at least Annie will be ok.

Annie is sleeping now….. she’s pumped up with pain pills. I almost want to take some to calm my nerves! But anywho, I guess I’ll use the rest of the day and get some knitting done.

Oh honey I am so sorry about Annie…and sue the woman’s ass off…
Call the police station and ask them what to do. File a complaint report.
Poor baby.

Oh Kenny, you poor babies. I am so sorry that Annie has been hurt and you too for that matter. As a mom to a Lhasa I feel your pain. Some people are such asses, and as Cheryl said, call the police and file a report. Hugs.

*hugs* And a *gentle hug* to Annie.
It’s hard when our babies get hurt. Harder when the person at fault is being a pain. I’d second (or is it third) Cheryl’s recommendation to talk to the police.
I’ll keep you and Annie in my thoughts.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I don’t know what I would have done. My cat injured herself the other day and I just panicked. I can’t imagine what I would do with another dog and a snotty owner. I might have bit the woman myself.

Anyways, having gone through court stuff myself . . . I think Cheryl is right. Call the police and ask for advice.

I’m sorry you and Annie had to go through this.

Definitely file a police report and they can let you know what they can do and with clarity of thought you can go from there. I’d bitch-slapped that other owner on the spot!! You demonstrated remarkable restraint – during and afterwards. Annie is very fortunate to have a loving clear-headed owner – you deserve more yarn!

Sorry to hear about this Kenny. You certainly did handle it well.
I can’t tell you what to do from here except pray for guidance and do what your HP tells you.

So sorry to hear about this. I would contact the authorities and file a report. Chances maybe, judging from the non-chalant attitude of the owner, this may not be the first time her dog has behaved this way. What would the outcome have been if a child had been playing with the perceived ball. I’d take her to Small Claims court, just to tick her off myself. In the meantime, relax, knit and love on your baby.

Poor Annie!

You’ve handled the situation very well so far, I definitely recommend filing a police report about the woman’s dog.

Hope Annie has a speedy recovery!

Often, when trying to be calm and fair we make things too easy for other parties involved in a conflict.
I commend you on handling this problem calmly……. but suggest that you don’t let the other dog owner get away with anything !
I was going to say that you sue her pants off, but maybe sueing her for what you rightfully spend on your dogs care ( vet cost and a day of loss of income ) will hurt her enough….of course after you make that report to the authorities.
There are many conceited , selfish and irresponsible dog owners out there and there is no reason that you put up with someone like her.
I have two dogs and two cats and feel with you……
I am sorry that your Annie is in pain…..
And just a little bit sorry that my first comment to your blog, which I read regularly, has to be about such a sad event….I hope that you both recover soon….

SUE THAT BITCH!!!! Don’t take that shit. Poor little baby has suffered.

Oh yeah, file the police report too. You’ve got the pictures and the witnesses. She’s guilty as all hell.

it would drive me crazy to have something like that happen to my doggie baby.

Oh geez! I’m so sorry to hear about Annie. I hope she’s doing ok. :(

And that woman, damn. I hope somehow she gets what’s coming to her. >:l

I know Annie thanks you for being a good daddy and a responsible pet owner. We handle things differently these days, makes life easier, huh.

Can you post signs at the dog park warning other dog owners that her dog is not well socialized? You obviously know who she is if a phone call was involved, so post her name, description, dog’s name and description, and what happened. At the least, if you can’t get her to admit fault or pay your vet bills, you might be able to shun her and her dangerous dog from the park.

I know I’m way late on this, but if you haven’t, file a police report so that they have a record that this dog attacked your dog — I don’t know TX law on this, but if there is a second complaint they may be able to take serious action. I hope your Annie has recovered by now.

I came across this because I have that yarn (different colorway, I think) and want to make those socks, so I will be using your tutorials a lot — after I finish my current project.
